Women Politicians under the Fifth Republic

Due to various institutional features, the Fifth Republic is a “Republic of
males” to whom it guarantees a monopoly of politics. Being a woman politician
is not the result of the legitimacy of elections, as would be normal in
a democracy, but still remains, in France, an exceptional destiny favored (or
hindered) by the presidential will (or male party leaders). Only major institutional
reforms could bring to an end the confiscation of political representation
by men, which is an archaic feature of our party life.
