The movements of the 1960s

Some recent interpretations see May 68 as a germinal phase in the advent of contemporary « individualism » and find its roots, its expression, or both, in the ideologies of the « death of man », the « un-being of the subject », etc. The author points out that, on the contrary, these ideologies - which found a large audience only after and as a result of the undoing of the May movement - were diametrically opposed to the project of collective and individual autonomy born by the movement of May 68 as well as by many other movements of the sixties in other countries, their weaknesses and limitations notwithstanding.
