The international communist system : a myth or a reality ?

In the sixties, in relation with the "detente", it seemed clear that what was left of the international communist movement was perhaps no more than a political myth. The eighties proved this hypothesis wrong : the communist system, now intercontinental, may from now on, be analysed in its structure and its mechanisms. There are three main sub-systems : the sub-system of the State-parties, that of the parties and that of the alliances. Each of these sub-systems has its own structure, its principle of coherence and its specific functions. The categories that have been used for this analysis are largely similar to those used by the communist movement for self-analysis purposes. This enables us to perceive the unifying logics underlining the part played by this original agent in contemporary history.
