Pouvoirs n°71 - Le nouveau Japon - novembre 1994 - p.91-103
Should we think, as some analysts have it, that the Japanese model is about
to disappear, swallowed up by the longest economic crisis of the post-war
period ? The 1990’s crisis is the result of the excesses of the previous period
when an intense speculation created a “financial bubble” which is now gradually
shrinking. However, the Japanese system is experiencing a series of
“discrete changes” which will help it adapt to its new environment, either
domestic - the consumers’ expectations – or international – the Asian spell.
In the end, during the present decade we might witness the integration of
the Japanese economy to the Pacific Asian zone rather than the opposite,
that is a Japanese domination of the region.
