The Rights of the Presidential Candidate

Has a presidential candidate any specific rights ? Both the period
preceding the campaign and the campaign itself reveal the numerous
obstacles to be overcome by the virtual candidate turned official
contender. The screening of candidacies, the regulation of campaign
financing and publicity constitute a set of obligations that hinder the
full development of a candidacy. Talent is not enough, and the presidential
candidates must exercise their rights within the framework
established by the French regulatory authorities : this framework
excludes anything that could be detrimental to the goals of transparency,
fairness, and the struggle against corruption.
