The European Police

Pouvoirs n°102 - La police - septembre 2002 - p.71-76

This article draws a comparative picture of the police forces of the
European Union member states, as well as an original comparison
between the police forces of the European Union and of the United
States of America.
Although the notions of police force and domestic security do not
have the same meaning in the various countries of the European Union,
although the forces and their mission are different, a better knowledge
of the institutions of the member states and of the forces entrusted with
the security of their citizens is a way of strengthening that security
through a pooling together of experiences, practice or even resources.
