The Constitutional Council as an election judge

Review of the duties and the role of the Constitutional Council in elections :
As regards the control of the legality of parliamentary elections, the judge only examines as a rule claims related to the naming of the winner. Such claims concern either the conduct of the election campaign or the balloting process. Since 1958, the council has examined 983 claims and it has nullified 30 parliamentary elections.

As regard the legality of referendums and presidential elections, the judge has duties of a consulting nature in addition to his other duties. However his powers of control are more limited.
