The Arab Springs: a Hope for Democratorships?

Since the emergence of the Arab Springs in 2011, the Arab world has been experiencing a deep transformation of its political and social structures. While the complaint of the people has become audible every- where, the authoritarian regimes intend to resist this new reality and adapt to it. They all have strengthened their power for fear of popular insurrection. The modernisation of the Saoudi regime, which is more autocratic than ever, is thus confronted to the new, opposite model of Tunisia, where democratisation is under way.
