The Apprentice President

The article examines what Donald Trump’s “politics” owes to his excellent knowledge of the attention economy’s drivers, which he assimilated during the twelve long years when he worked mainly as the anchor of a reality tV show (“The Apprentice”). Hence the title “The Apprentice President”. It shows how Trump has transformed the White House into the set of a gigantic reality tV show operating according to sacrificial rules; how this has allowed him to detach himself from anything that would link politics to a dialectic of truth and falsehood; and how this has transformed him into a pure apparition, a pure exteriority, an empty shell welcoming to all the racist sirens.
