Semiotic of negotiation

Since it gives rise to the exchange of messages, expressly or tacitly coded, and to the production of texts, it is legitimate to subject the international negotiation to an analysis based on the semiotics of communication and the semiotics of signification.

We have tried to sketch here the general outline of a two-level study on both the analysis of the codes, i.e. the Systems of signs and constraints constituting the rules of the game, and the deciphering of the texts in which the actors express their quests.

Founded precisely on this concept of quest, a definition and a typology of the negotiation are proposed. These in turn can provide instruments for prospection and lead to a clearer understanding of the behaviour of the negotiator.
