Past and présent antiparliamentarism

The mistrust towards the political class we are witnessing today in France might be a résurgence of the antiparliamentarism which existed under the Third Republic. But what does antiparliamentarism really mean ? If one analyzes its contents in the light of political history from 1880 to 1940, one can see that it lasted, in a somewhat subdued form, under the Fourth Republic and that it disappeared under the Fifth Republic, after the introduction ofthe new Constitution. The présent crisis concerns the party system rather than the parliamentary institution itself.
