Minority Representation within California’s Political System
Pouvoirs n°133 - La Californie - avril 2010 - p.69-84
California is at the forefront of demographic changes that are likely
to affect other parts of the United States and bear important political
consequences. The demographic and political landscape of the state
has dramatically changed over the past few decades, with the growth
in the number of Asian and Latino elected officials and the decline in
Black political representation. However, California’s statewide electorate
does not reflect the diversity of California’s population. In that
context, the new census and redistricting bears serious potential consequences
and should stir much debate.
