Mexico: North-South Disparities

Despite numerous attempts at introducing public policy reform programmes, Mexico is still experiencing high levels of poverty and inequality. The country is characterized by important regional disparities between the North and the South, which have increased the impact of other factors such as the proximity to or remoteness from commercial markets, infrastructures, logistics capacities, education, digital development and discrimination. These important schisms should be addressed by a strategy of inclusive growth whose leading principles—redistribution downstream and on the market, gender and ethnic equality in term of opportunities and openings, together with trust between governments, actors and citizens—require the state to adopt appropriate financial capacities and competences.
