Mexico City: The Long Road to a Constitution

The adoption of a new Constitution and a new name for the Mexican capital are only the superficial signs of major changes in the government of the city of Mexico. The 2017 Constitution responded to newly formulated requests rooted in older demands. Looking at the main constitutional and legal reforms that have shaped the local government, the article tries to highlight the tensions that have underpinned the institutional choices made over the last century.
