Membership in a Trade Union’ and professionnal career
Pouvoirs n°26 - Le pouvoir syndical - septembre 1983 - p.45-54
The relationship between the fact of having an engagment in a Trade Union and building a professionnal career proceeds from the conditions which preside over the making of the french workers movement and express its originality = french trade Unions are a group of organizations ruled by militants. This leads to three distinct levels : for a simple Member, belonging to a trade Union is a symbolic act whereas for a militant being a member means belonging to an institution which makes him manage a sort of public service i.e. to represent and undertake workers’ defence. As for a director, there is a complete break between his first professionnal situation and his actual position so that going back to the basis has become impossible.
