Japan : a global model ? From the economy to education

Which country at the threshold ofthe 21st century, will be the first to turn the corner that the « technological millenarianism » of our times discernes for the years ahead ?

For some twenty years, Japan has been a center of attention in this respect for many countries, including France. There is much to learn from Japan’s technology and from her technics of personnel management. More recently interest has grown in the Japanese educational system, with the recognition that economie success and educational investment are linked. But in Japan too, there is a sense of anxiety, of a loss of momentum. The country needs new and innovative men : to « create » them, a new educational frameword is needed, but the business community, the Ministry of Education and the opposition are not agreed on how to achieve.
