Intellectuals and the Crisis of Democracy

Is there still such a thing as a French intellectual? If so, has he tended to move more and more to the right? To answer these questions, the article outlines the major developments in French intellectual life since the 1970s, looking both at its form (the media) and its content (the emergence of new debates). It also looks at the future of the intellectual in the context of a globalized democratic crisis, in order to propose a new definition of the “committed intellectual”.
