Games for Money and Games of Chance and European Union Law

In the absence of secondary legislation applying specifically to games for money and games of chance, the case law of the European Court of Justice has progressively created the rules to be applied by the member states. Aware of the fact that this economic activity is not similar to others and represents a domain in which national peculiarities are very pronounced, it has granted the member states a real room for maneuver. However, this does not allow them to adopt inconsistent legislation or disproportionate measures.
