Traditionally, the politicisation of local government officers has been two-way - clientelism towards the local political system and allegiance to the national State. The new status of local and régional government officers, defined in a law by the left-wing government, gives official expression to their close links with local politics. However, the forms of politicisation they are now undergoing may now become closer to those of the national civil service.
