“Democratic Pulverisation”, or Puzzle-Style Cleavages

“Democratic pulverisation” represents an anthropological revolution. It is characterised by the atomisation of actors and the impossibility to organise well-argued debates of ideas and to build collective deliber- ation. Its form is the violence that now characterises the political game. Its consequence is the destruction of the classic forms of the democratic process based on cleavages. The weakening of these deep and objective structures under the blows of democratic pulverisation opens the way to a personalisation of politics.
