Change with Continuity: The Party Structure of the National Front
Pouvoirs n°157 - Le Front national - avril 2016 - p.49-62
While we seem now to have a tremendous amount of knowledge about the National Front, certain features of the party have been little studied so far. Such is the case for the organisational structure of the party. Yet, it is essential to grasp the structural dimension of the National Front phenomenon, not only to understand the functioning of the party, but also to assess its renewing — often more claimed than verified — since the election of Marine Le Pen as president in January 2011. Four features are examined more closely here: the organisation chart of the NF, the internal operating logics of the party, its strategy for organizational development, its active members (cadres and grassroots). The goal of the article is to determine whether, in light of these features, it is possible to refer to a “new” NF.
