An English jacobin question French regionalists

The article attempts to call into question some of the basic assumptions and axioms of those who wish to regionalize centralist, liberal democratic states, such as France. By raising a series of questions related to the economic, administrative and political claims of the regionalists, it hopes to expose some of their confusions and contradictions. Whilst accepting that the state is presently confronted with problems in meeting the conflicting exigences of the citizenry, it argues that, nonetheless, it remains an infinitely more flexible and more effective terrirorial unit than the region for meeting those exigences.
