Alliance, conflict and kinship : the Chinese case

Since 1949 the relations between China and the USSR have been characterized alternatively by alliance and conflict and more recently a paradoxical relationship between a return to the soviet model in internal politics and the maintenance in foreign policy of a line apparently hostile to the USSR. Yet, the primacy of internal factors (both economic and ideological) helps understand why China’s soviet policy has already suffered local eclipses and an overall lowering of intensity, and why, today, it demonstrates a certain flexibility.
